Duality is the cause of terror...

Is this a good or bad omen?

“I am a follower of Advaita, I believe the main problem which generates terror is duality,” said Justice Kapadia, who has Theoretical Physics listed as one of his hobbies.
Touching on the concept of terror, he said, “if a religion is based on concepts like fear, greed, heaven, hell – all these fears will eventually be exploited by certain entities or persons. And finally this will lead to terror acts.”"- VisionMp.com

Justice Kapadia is set to become the Chief Justice of our Supreme Court next year.Looks like we are in for some interesting times.

  1. It is a great thing that you have quoted Justice Kapadia about duality breeding terror. This subject needs to be studied in depth.

  2. Thanks or commenting in on this- as you say, this is something to be studied in depth. I think it is interesting that a judge would say this- but even claiming oneself to be an advaitin could be divisive: because advaita is not the same a secular.

one would like to know why the honourable judge thinks advaita is more effective in resolving terror than securalism. At the individual level i understand how duality leads to fear, but in the social and political sphere, can belief in advaita resolve anything?

BTW: I went through your blogs, and gave up halfway through. You've got an entire blogroll in your blogger profile. I am amazed at your energy.

  3. Dear Baskarji, Thanks for your response. As you rightly wondered, Advaita is an application at the individual level. There cannot be a social application of Advaita in the sense that people get together and organise an activity for realising some Advaitic goals. Advaita is an individual approach to life and living. Those having an advaitic vision can of course get together for particular goals, but that goals would only be ordinary goals. At best, the Advaitins can ensure that the quality of their goals are in the realm of excellence.

As to the question whether the learned Judge can pass judgements based on Advaita, I would say that such a question is meaningless considering that Judges in India have to base their judgements on the basis of the Indian Constitution and not on the basis of their own world-view. However, since a judge having an Advaitic vision would tend to see matters with a great sense of proportion, we can be sure that the judgments of such judges would bear great compassion and insights into the affairs of human nature and laws framed to regulate it.
