Amor Fati

At Maverick Philosopher I found these words of Nietschze,

I want to learn to see more and more as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who makes things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation.

These are straitened times, economically and politically - and the decision to look away, pull away from waging war against what is ugly, what is unnecessary in things, appears the right act for the age. Because like Nietschze somewhere else said, "When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you". It does not do us any good to get caught in conflict.

The ultimate act of "yes" in this age, could be to avert our eyes from ugliness, and find beauty in the necessary things.

Thanks should go to Bill Vallicella, the author at The Maverick Philosopher .

  1. Another Nietzsche quote I heard in the movie Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind:
"Blessed are the forgetful, for they get the best even of their blunders."

Though reading Nietzsche gives acute head ache for his playing with words, some are simple (like 'I cannot believe in a God who wants to be praised all the time.') and all are amazing.

  2. You have read Nietzsche? Please share your thoughts with us. I have never read a word of him.

What is he like- except for the headache (it is a German thing)?
