When blogging, we want to make posts that people read, right? It is just not enough for us to spew out our views, if no one comes and looks at it..Sometimes that is enough- we want to get things off the chest and blogging is a fine way to do it. But, really.
You should be informative or entertaining or even when both, your posts should be easy to read. Or else who is going to come back to see what you have put in?
I found some useful links.
- Readability Calculations , which is a good introduction on this. It gives a link to measure how good you are.
- A Free Online Software Tool- you can check the readability of your posts here.
- Jakob Nielsen, the guru of Web Page Usability, tells you how people read on the net.
- And importantly, Here where we get some idea of how to put up posts that are easy on the eye and mind.
The main point of it is that you should be concise and objective, and your post should be scannable.
I put this on the online Readability Tool, and I found this:
Indication of the number of years of formal education that a person requires in order to easily understand the text on the first reading
Gunning Fog index : | 7.97 |
Approximate representation of the U.S. grade level needed to comprehend the text :
Coleman Liau index : | 4.99
Flesh Kincaid Grade level : | 5.67
ARI (Automated Readability Index) : | 3.82
SMOG : | 8.04 |
Flesch Reading Ease : | 78.96 |
And it tells me these sentences could be changed:
- You should be informative or entertaining or even when both, your posts should be easy to read.
- Sometimes that is enough- we want to get things off the chest and blogging is a fine way to do it.
- The main point of it is that you should be concise and objective, and your post should be scannable.
So there.
Your comments tell me how good this is.
