Us- You, Me and This
I might write poetry if
we could make a deal that
along with metre and rhyme,
we dispense with reason.
That this is nothing serious,
that this need not make sense.
If you'll promise
you won't look for meaning,
a purpose, some significance,
in any of this.
(Or even something to appreciate,
something that will make you happy,
bring you joy,
or move to tears.)
We might agree that all these words-
abstract, polysyllabic,
redolent with meaning-
they are all not that necessary
here.
That a sense of presence
is reason enough to be-
for us- you, me, this
That a sense of presence
ReplyDeleteis enough reason to be-
for us- you, me, this
that a sense of presence is enough reason to be.
