I Should Be in Utah.

This news item was an eye-opener to me, it could be a shocker to you. Depends on who you are.

Utah State in US, since August 8 this year has become the first state to institute a compulsory four-day work week for most state employees. It joins local governments across USA that are altering working hour to save money, energy and resources. The change will apply to about 17,000 employees, roughly 80% of the state workforce, who will put in four days of work- ten hours a day.

The four day week is expected to reduce the state's carbon footprint (Utah state targets to reduce its energy usage by 20% by 2015), increase energy efficiency, improve customer service and provide workers more flexibility.

Rex Facer, an assistant professor at Brigham Young University, estimates that about one-sixth of U.S. cities with populations above 25,000 offer employees a four-day work week. "More and more young workers are entering the work force," Facer says.

They will, won't they!

  1. That is ten hours a day for just four days.

    No problem for me.

One hour late in the morning, two hours for lunch, One hour early to go home.

Permissions on Amavasai, Avani Avittam, Grahanam etc.

    Not a big deal.

I am willing to work like that.

  2. In fct what this means effectively is you work a day and ease off the next. That's how it wasn't with 24 hr duties we did as youngsters! No offs after 24 hrs...Now peeps like me are on call 24x7x365, anywhere in India if need be, even if we get an off after 12 hrs through the night.

So wouldn't mind the Utah system.
