Some Scary Stats

Here are some horrible statistics that I read in The Economic Times on Sunday.

# There are about 45 million diabetes patients in India at present. The International Diabetes Federation projects that the number of diabetics here will double to about 70 million by 2025.

# At present, about 44% of the new cases of kidney failures have the background of diabetes. In general, about one out of three diabetics are liable to develop kidney problems. So, in 20 years time, we will have at least 15 million people with diabetic kidney disease.

All very scary, but the article throws in some small solace too:

# There are four factors that can prevent this: reduced protein diet, regular exercise, regulation of blood pressure and intensive management of blood glucose. In fact, The American Diabetes Association states that maintaining a tight blood glucose control reduces the risk of kidney disease by 21% in type II diabetes. And a trial conducted by The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), shows that when the participants followed an intensive regimen for controlling blood glucose levels, the development and progression of early diabetic kidney disease is reduced by as much as 50%.

Now, if someone knowledgeable is reading this, can you please tell me how you control blood glucose levels?

    c. if b. is fluted regular medication

and it is said that yoga and accupressure treatments also aid keeping glucose levels at par with normal.
