You thought I was done with this?- Crime Watch continues...

We had a bit of a hamlettian crisis for last eighteen hours- not counting out the twelve hours of sleep time-, you know, the to do or not to do part-, well, we came to the conclusion that though what we do is trivial and is likely to get boring, at the present moment of time and consciousness, it is impossible for us to do anything better. Not just now, possibly, never ever.

So it gets worse, and gets worse with impunity.

The New York Times reports,

"An analysis by The New York Times of rainfall and homicides for the last six years shows that when it rains substantially in the summertime, there are fewer homicides.
When there was no precipitation, there was an average of 17 homicides every 10 days. But when there was an inch or more of rain, the average dropped to 14."

And what is more unusual,

"The gap is even wider when looking just at Saturdays in the summer. Those are the days that typically post the highest number of homicides in a year. When there was no rain, the average number of homicides for every 10 Saturdays in summer jumped to 24. For every 10 Saturdays doused with at least an inch of rain, the average number was 18."

We don't know what the reason for this madness could be- but being at Chennai we understand the impulse to knife someone, and so we find Mr. Geberth's explanation plausible:
“It doesn’t take much to get ‘deaded’ in certain neighborhoods. All you got to do is look sideways at the wrong people, and bingo, something gets set off and it’s crazy.”
He added, “On bad weather days, people are apt not to run into each other that are carrying grudges from the day before.”

So they call rains bad weather- funny.

But here, may be this is a homicide that did not happen:

O’Brien is also alleged to have used “decisive or offensive words which were likely to provoke a violent reaction on the part of an ordinary person, to wit he called (the alleged victim) a sissy.”
Lt. Rodney McQuate said the officer asked the alleged victim if O’Brien’s language offended him and he answered in the affirmative.

The police have filed charges on O'Brien, thereby saving a life.

You would think it does not get worse, but well, it does, and how worse!

Ward was sentenced 19-60 months in 2006 to Nevada State Prison for his part in the June 24, 2005, death of Jeffrey John.
He was arrested June 1 for driving without a valid license and sentenced to a suspended six-month sentence in Douglas County Jail.
Ten days later, he was sentenced to six months in jail for eluding a Douglas County deputy who was trying to arrest him for traffic violations.

When Law caught up with him, Justice was stern and implacable:

“You haven't got it figured out yet,” Judge EnEarl said. “Ten days after I looked you in the eye and said I'd put you in jail again, you drove without a driver's license, and insurance.”
“The lifestyle you're living, you can't expect longevity,” EnEarl said. “You've been to prison, and you're back out. You closely associate with someone who's been drinking and playing with a gun. It means you're going to be dead soon, and you're doing nothing to change it.”

You would think a imprisonment for six months plus dire predictions of death just for driving without license and trying to avoid being caught is a bit tough, well, we read the comment by gigiwigi462 and were left speechless:

He murdered kid I went to school with...he should never have been let out of jail....the scum should have gotten more time he's waste of oxygen!

Whatever the merits of that particular case, this one sure is evil:

Veronika Tishchenko, a six year girl, grew up in a pack of dogs in Khabarovsk Region in Russia’s Far East, neglected by her relatives, RenTV channel reports. As the police came to take the girl away, her grandmother, the only family member present, argued that the girl was quite happy where she was.

Where I also found this news:

A five-year-old girl is thought to have been raised by cats and dogs after her parents neglected to take care of her at her home in Chita, Russia’s Baikal Region. The girl can barely speak, but barks and hisses at people in apparent imitation of the dogs and cats she grew up around. Like them, she laps her food from her plate.

But no one can touch this criminal:

Henry Rouwendal said he was in the driveway of his Vernon home at about 10:30 p.m. Friday packing for a business trip when something struck him from behind, The (Newark) Star-Ledger reported Thursday.
"It blind-sided me. I was on the ground and I was thinking, 'What the hell just hit me?'" Rouwendal said.
Rouwendal said he rolled onto his back in time to see the bear grab his sandwich.

Be happy, nothing like this is likely to happen to you.
